Franche-Comté is the former County of Bourgogne. Until the Treaty of Nimégue (1678) there were two Bourgogne, one to the west of the Saône, the Duchy of Bourgogne, capital Dijon and the other to the east, the County of Bourgogne, capital Dole in the region of the Holy Roman Empire, then Spain. This explains its exceptional historical heritage and its many sites classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
A diversity conducive to discovery and leisure
Start with a visit to Montbozon, classified as a Small Town of Character Burgundy-Franche-Comté and its remarkable heritage (strong house Bouday, Fontaine du cygne and numerous 16th, 17th and 18th century residences. Then set off to discover a region that will know seduce you.

but also a diversity of natural sites: The Thousand Ponds, the Ballons chain, the Saône valley, the Vosges ...
You can choose the canoe rather than the car to descend the valley of the Ognon. 150 km of peaceful navigation until the junction with the Saône and countless small dams to pass like so many fun slides. Along the meanders, appear the "Cities of character of Burgundy Franche-Comté": Villersexel, Rougemont, Montbozon, Bucey-les-Gy, Gy, Marnay and Pesmes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. We attend a concert under the surprisingly acoustically vaults of the Priory of Marast, or we stroll through the sculpture park of the Château de Sainte Marie. The Ognon Valley is a history book: Oricourt, the best-preserved 12th century castle in Franche-Comté, Fondremand *, another medieval gem. In total, you can visit around twenty private castles, in the footsteps of their owners! Before leaving, do not forget to visit Besançon and its Vauban citadel, then Dole and its magnificent collegiate church. * City of character of Bourgogne Franche-Comté.
